Kevin,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm enjoying reading your historical posts. I'll be writing some historical posts on Hollywood Park during the current Fall meet... we may not have Hollywood Park much longer, so I want to get as much as I can now! Keep in touch. Mary

Kevin, great post, especially considering you've never been to Santa Anita. I'm a bit of a Santa Anita historian, having worked at that track for almost 20 years, and having grown up a couple miles from there! Lucky Baldwin's racetrack was not on the same footprint as the current Santa Anita. It was located just to the southeast, on what is now the Arcadia County Golf Course. Arcadia Library has some wonderful old photos and information about Lucky Baldwin and the racetrack. Please check out my blog if you get a chance; I did several historical posts about Santa Anita during Breeders Cup, with photos! maryforney.blogspot.com. And let me know if you have any questions I can investigate out here for you!

Hello Kevin,
Great stuff on Santa Anita...I'm a sucker for historical horse racing commentary. It's my understanding that the old and new Santa Anita are on the same footprint. I tried to find some corroborating evidence and could only find mention of that on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Anita_Park).
I'm also interested in joining the TBA, Patrick suggested that I provide my blogs for your review: old (http://horseplayerpro.21publish.com/Amateurcapper/archive/2008/10/10/just-two-weeks-out-in-which-bc-race-will-a-favorite-be-defeated--after-today--co.htm) and new (http://amateurcapper.blogspot.com/
).
Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
Rob aka.
Ljk: Thank you for your comment and thanks for reading. I am not boycotting Friday (I will be watching when I get home from work) but I won't be betting the card. I don't agree 100% with the language in the Take Back the Race petition (that might be one of the reasons it has only received 235 signatures). I did sign it because I back the spirit of the idea. My biggest gripe (along with others of varying degrees) is that the Breeders Cup is being watered down. The BC should be one day of racing and these additional races that have no "championship" implications (dirt mile, turf sprint, marathon, juvie turf races) should be either eliminated or moved to a BC preview day on Friday. The traditional BC races should be run on Saturday -- the one and only championship day. Efforts to make it two days and adding races will do nothing but cheapen the concept behind the founding of the BC.
