Image Vault: Mutuel Payouts to the Penny, 1927

A rare site from Turf and Sport Digest, September 1927:

The image appeared next to the following caption:

“Gone are the days of the ‘dime breaks,’ so far as Illinois Tracks are concerned. They must now be content with the breakage of a single copper. Even at that, the penny breaks would provide for a nice vacation in the mountains, or perhaps even Europe if they’d turn them our way. The payoff board, shown herewith, is the one at Fairmount Park and Shaun Gilmartin, in charge of the mutuel department is standing right at the corner with the track publicity man, who is quite apparent in his ice cream suit.”
